I’ve never even seen one! And of course I can’t remember songs, just short clips like “sittin’ in the paw paw patch.” Some anthropologist, huh? 😉 I read this morning that they grow to 15 feet high. That’s so cool you are developing a patch over at the farm. I should look at see if I can find the fruits for sale up here.

🌳I have one tiny pawpaw that is about a decade away from producing fruit, but The Hickories has several. I save the seeds from the fruit I eat each year, stratify and germinate them and eventually plant more at the farm. I think of the seeds and the act of planting them as "totemic" for a more inclusive future because if you read about their history you will see that there is a fair amount of racism that has swirled around them. You should really try eating one someday, they are amazing! Could you share a pawpaw song? I would love to play it to my trees.

PS Why do you think of the seeds as a totem? Beautiful colors!

I have never seen, eaten, or known anything about pawpaw trees—though they show up in a lot of songs I knew as a kid. Do you have one on your land?
