long before the sun crests
hills still sleepily draped
in a cool evening dew
bullfrogs sing farewell
to the waning moon while
catbirds, orioles, chickadees and
song sparrows join in a rising crescendo of
a joyous chorus celebrating the arrival
of the summer solstice sun
whose first rays throw
yellow kisses across the maple leaves
